Usage guide
Cuprinol Wood Preserver (P) gives an oak tone and
deep penetrating protection to sound wood against rot and mould.
Once dry it may be varnished or polished. For use indoors and outdoors.

Use on interior and exterior exposed timbers to give a rich oak tone. May be varnished or polished when dry. Use pre-treated timber for timber in ground contact.

Dip for at least 3 minutes if practical or brush or spray 2-3 uniform coats. Use a minimum of 1 litre per 6 sq. metres (total). Rough sawn timber may absorb up to twice as much as planed wood.

Ensure timber is dry and free from bark, dust/dirt, algae and any surface coating including paint, varnish or polish.

SHAKE CONTAINER WELL before and occasionally during use. This
is important to achieve a uniform colour. Treat all surfaces. Wherever possible
dip timber in preserver. Otherwise apply uniformly, flooding faces, sides,
ends and joints with at least two brush or spray coats. Apply the next coat
after the previous has soaked in, but before it dries. When spraying use a
coarse (airless) spray and avoid atomisation (misting). One hour after application
wipe off any fluid that has not soaked in. The exact colour may be affected
by any previous treatment and type of wood. It is darker on sawn, more absorbent,
weathered and dark wood. Try a small representative test area first to ensure
colour is acceptable when dry. Apply to any surfaces cut after treatment. Protect
plants during application. Do not splash. Allow treated wood, etc. to dry thoroughly
before re-fixing plants. Ensure wood is fully dry (allow 6-8 weeks), or use
a vapour barrier such as heavy duty polythene (as used for damp proof membrane),
before laying plastic coverings, rubber backed carpets or underlay, hanging
vinyl wallpaper or using mastics. Do not spill on asphalt, bitumen, bitumen
felt, tar, plaster, plastics, paint, etc. This product is not recommended for
use on furniture or clock cases.

Varnish or polish can be applied in the normal manner to treated wood after the preserver has dried (normally 2-5 days for brush, spray or 3 minute dip, but may be longer in cold weather or poor ventilation).

Clean equipment with white spirit. Remove as much preserver as possible from brushed before cleaning. For best results use Polycell Brush Cleaner. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature.

This product is combustible. Remove sources of ignition (naked flames, hot surfaces, etc.) during application and until dry - at least 36 hours afterwards. Isolate electrical circuits, switches, etc. in the area. If electrical equipment is used, it should be flameproof and connected to a remote socket. Use only inherently safe encased lighting suitable for use in combustible atmospheres. On softwood garden furniture use Cuprinol Garden Furniture Finish or Garden Shades, and on hardwood use Cuprinol Teak Oil or Hardwood Garden Furniture Protector. On decking use a product from the Cuprinol Decking Care range. To treat existing attacks of wet rot or dry rot, use Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (FP). To eradicate woodworm use Cuprinol Woodworm Killer (F). Where longer lasting colour is required on sheds, fences, summerhouses, etc., use Cuprinol Garden Wood Preserver (DP). Joinery in domestic buildings should be preserved with Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (IP) followed by a paint or suitable woodstain.

For maximum protection the special Cuprinol formula has been developed to penetrate 10 x deeper than many other wood treatments.
Always read the pack instructions carefully before use.
