Cuprinol

Usage guide

Cuprinol Wood Preserver Green (P) is a general purpose preserver for interior or exterior use. It gives deep penetrating protection to sound wood against wood decay and mould. Use on structural timber, including roof trusses, greenhouses etc, where the natural green colour of the formula clearly identifies treated areas. Treated wood is safe near plants when dry. NOTE: If a decorative green coating is required outdoors use Cuprinol Garden Wood Preserver (DP) Spruce Green or Holly Green. Cuprinol Wood Preserver Green (P) will not give long-lasting decoration. This low odour formula has been specially developed with low aromatic solvents to make it more pleasant and convenient to use.

Where to use

Use on structural and horticultural timber such as roof trusses and greenhouses. Use pre-treated timber if timber is in ground contact.

How much is needed

Small timbers, roof trusses, horticultural timbers: Dip for 3 minutes or brush or spray 2 coats - Minimum 1 litre per 6 sq. metre.
Outdoor or large timbers not in ground contact: Dip for 3-10 minutes if practical or brush or spray 3 coats - Minimum 1 litre per 6 sq. metres. Note: Rough sawn timber will absorb up to twice as much as planed wood.

How to apply

SHAKE CONTAINER WELL before and occasionally during use. This is important to achieve a uniform colour. Treat all surfaces. Wherever possible dip timber in preserver. Otherwise apply uniformly, flooding faces, sides, ends and joints with at least two brush or spray coats. Apply the next coat after the previous coat has soaked in, but before it's dry. When spraying use a coarse (airless) spray and avoid atomisation (misting). Apply to any surfaces cut after treatment. After drying, glues, fillers, mastics and knotting can be used normally. Ensure wood is fully dry (allow 6 -8 weeks), or use a vapour barrier such as heavy duty polythene (as used for damp proof membrane), before laying plastic floor coverings, rubber backed carpets or underlay, hanging vinyl wallpaper or using mastics. Do not spill on asphalt, bitumen, bitumen felt, tar, plaster, plastics, paint, etc. This product is not recommended for furniture or clock cases.

Drying time

For wood to be overpainted, Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (IP) is recommended. However, Cuprinol Wood Preserver Green (P) may be overpainted using an aluminium primer/sealer after the preserver has dried (normally 2-5 days for brush, spray or 3 minutes dip, but may be longer in cold weather).

Cleaning and storage

Clean equipment with white spirit. Remove as much preserver as possible from brushes before cleaning. For best results use Polycell Brush Cleaner. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature.

Other information

This product is combustible. Remove sources of ignition (naked flames, hot surfaces, etc.) during application and until dry - at least 36 hours afterwards. Isolate electrical circuits, switches, etc. in the area. If electrical equipment is used, it should be flameproof and connected to a remote socket. Use only inherently safe encased lighting suitable for use in combustible atmospheres. On softwood garden furniture use Cuprinol Garden Furniture Finish or Garden Shades, and on hardwood use Cuprinol Teak Oil or Hardwood Garden Furniture Protector. On decking use a product from the Cuprinol Decking Care range. To treat existing attacks of wet rot or dry rot, use Cuprinol 5 Star Complete Wood Treatment (FP). To eradicate woodworm use Cuprinol Woodworm Killer (F).
