Cuprinol

Usage guide

Cuprinol Total Garden Wood Treatment is the ultimate treatment for all kinds of garden timber. Unlike some other garden wood treatments Cuprinol Total contains active ingredients that penetrate into the timber to prevent rot and decay. Other ingredients in the Total advanced triple action formulation work together to ensure the wood is totally protected against the weather and stays looking its best for up to 5 years.

Cuprinol Total Garden Wood Treatment has a triple action formulation that works in three ways. Active ingredients penetrate into the timber to protect the wood against rot, decay and fungal growth. Water repellent waxes and resins help waterproof the wood against rain penetration. The rich woodshade colours contain long lasting pigments and UV filters which ensure they last up to five years.

Where to use

Cuprinol Total Garden Wood Treatment can be used on rough sawn or smooth planed garden wood such as summerhouses, sheds, cladding, fencing and decking. It can be used on bare wood, wood that has been previously pressure-treated or wood that has been previously treated with a wood preservative (providing it has been allowed to weather). Cuprinol Total Garden Wood Treatment is not recommended for use on garden furniture (use one of the Cuprinol Garden Furniture Care products instead).

How much is needed

A 4L tin is normally sufficient for:
Smooth planed wood: 24m²
Rough sawn wood: 12-16m²
Coverage quoted with 2 coats however a third coat may be necessary to achieve a uniform colour and to give added protection to horizontal surfaces. Coverage may be less on weathered or absorbent wood.

Preparing the surface

Ensure wood is clean, dry and free from any type of surface coating including paint, varnish etc. Scrape or sand if necessary (avoid the inhalation of dust). Clean weathered and dirty wood using a stiff brush, detergent and water. Rinse and allow to dry.

How to apply

Cuprinol Total Garden Wood Treatment can be brushed or sprayed using the Cuprinol Fence Sprayer or Cuprinol Power Sprayer. Shake tin or stir thoroughly before and during use to ensure colour consistency. To ensure thorough protection, treat all surfaces and apply to any surfaces cut after treatment. Avoid splashing other surfaces including glass and brickwork. Clean off glass whilst still wet.

Brush: Apply a minimum of two even brush coats to give a uniform finish. Allow the previous coat to soak in before applying the next. Please note that the type of wood and any previous treatment will affect colour. Try a representative test area first to ensure colour is acceptable when dry.

Spray: Shake pack thoroughly before pouring contents into the Cuprinol Fence Sprayer or Cuprinol Power Sprayer. Refer to the Sprayer user guide for full instructions before every use. Apply 2 even coats to give a uniform finish. Allow the previous coat to soak in before applying the next. Cover any surfaces nearby in case of overspray. Any overspray should be cleaned up immediately (whilst still wet) with water and household detergent.

Do not apply in temperatures below 5ºC, in damp conditions or if rain is likely before the product has dried.

Cleaning and storage

Reseal tin after use. Clean up any spills while still wet. After use remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning with water. Do not store or use in extreme temperatures and protect from frost.

Always read the pack instructions carefully before use.
