Cuprinol Total Garden Furniture Treatment

Usage guide

Cuprinol Total Garden Furniture Treatment is a water repellent formulation and contains UV absorbing pigments so furniture is protected in all types of weather.

Where to use

For use on hardwood garden furniture such as chairs, tables and benches. May be used to protect new furniture or restore the appearance of older weathered furniture.

How much is needed

A 2.5L tin is normally sufficient for:
Woodstained wood: 25m² with 2 coats.
Bare wood: 16m² with 3 coats .
Coverage may be less on absorbent wood.

Preparing the job

Surfaces should be clean, dry and free from algae and mould. Where these are present use Cuprinol TimberClean. For best results brush to remove dirt and debris and then clean the surface with Cuprinol Garden Furniture Cleaner. Rinse well and allow to dry.

New bare wood: Sand smooth, rounding off sharp edges. Brush to remove dust and debris. Natural oils and resins should be removed from resinous wood by wiping with white spirit. For protection against rot pretreat with Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (BP).

Weathered grey wood: Use Cuprinol Garden Furniture Restorer to bring back the natural colour of the wood. Sand before applying Cuprinol Total Garden Furniture Treatment. Alternatively completely remove all grey wood first by sanding back to a clean sound surface. Avoid the inhalation of dust.

Painted or varnished wood: Sand off or chemically strip existing coatings, then treat as new bare wood. Not recommended on freshly oiled wood.

How to apply

Stir well before and occasionally during use. Final colour will depend upon wood type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied. Brush on evenly along the grain avoiding overlaps.

Do not apply in wet conditions or if rain, dew or frost is likely before the product has dried.

Drying time

Cuprinol Total Garden Furniture Treatment will normally be touch dry in 4 hours in good drying conditions. Apply 2-3 coats depending on degree of protection and colour required. When applying subsequent coats allow to dry for a minimum of 16 hours before recoating. Some oily timbers such as teak and iroko may extend the drying time. Allow a few days before heavy use or contact with soft furnishings.

Cleaning and storage

Reseal can after use. Clean up any spills immediately while still wet. After use remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning with white spirit. For best results use Polycell Brush Cleaner. Do not store or use in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.
