Where to use
Cuprinol Garden Furniture Finish is ideal for use on softwood garden furniture such as pine. For hardwood garden furniture use Cuprinol Hardwood Garden Furniture Protector or Cuprinol Garden Furniture Teak Oil.
How much is needed
A 750ml tin is normally sufficient for:
Woodstained wood: 7.5m² with 2 coats
Bare wood: 5m² with 3 coats
Coverage can vary depending on condition and nature of surface.
Preparing the job
Surfaces should be clean, dry and free from algae and mould. For best results brush to remove dirt and debris and then clean the surface with Cuprinol Garden Furniture Cleaner. Rinse well and allow to dry.
New bare wood: Sand smooth, rounding off sharp edges. Brush to remove dust and debris. Natural oils and resins should be removed from resinous wood by wiping with white spirit. For protection against rot pretreat with Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear (BP).
Weathered wood: Use Cuprinol Garden Furniture Restorer to bring back the natural colour of the wood. Sand before applying Cuprinol Softwood Garden Furniture Stain. Alternatively completely remove all grey wood by sanding back to a clean sound surface.
Painted or varnished wood: Sand off or chemically strip existing coatings then treat as new bare wood.
Sound woodstained wood: Lightly sand then wash down. Touch up bare areas with Cuprinol Softwood Garden Furniture Stain, then apply two further coats.
How to apply
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply 2-3 coats. Brush on evenly along the grain avoiding overlaps. Allow 2-6 hours between coats under normal weather conditions. Allow a few days before heavy use or contact with soft furnishings. Final colour will depend upon wood type, previous treatment and the number of coats applied. Do not apply in temperatures below 5C, in damp conditions or if rain is likely before the product has dried.
Drying time
2-6 hours. Drying times can vary depending on the nature of the surface and the weather conditions.
Cleaning and storage
Reseal can after use. Clean up any spills while still wet. After use remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning with water. Do not store or use in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.
Other information
Depending on exposure conditions some furniture may need treating each year to maintain protection.
