Cuprinol

Usage guide

Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback has an advanced, wax-enriched formulation that colours and waterproofs rough sawn garden wood for up to 5 years. With this special rollable formulation and the Cuprinol Rapid Roller, you can treat your fence in half the time it takes with a brush.

Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback's convenient weatherproof technology means you can even apply Ducksback to damp wood and because it's rainproof in just one hour you can relax knowing that it won't wash off in a shower.

Ducksback is ideal for restoring and enhancing the appearance of sheds and fences and will help to keep them looking good and lasting for years to come.

Where to use

Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback is formulated for exterior use only on rough sawn wood including fences, sheds, gates, trellis and pergolas. It may be applied to wood that has been previously pressure treated, or treated with creosote provided it has been allowed to weather. Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback should not be used on smooth or planed wood, decking or garden furniture.

How much is needed

A 7L tub is normally sufficient for: 7 fence panel sides (6' x 6') with 1 coat when applied using the Cuprinol Rapid Roller. Actual coverage will vary with the type and condition of the wood to be treated.

Use of rollers on rough surfaces can lead to some deterioration of the roller fabric. For best results it is recommended to use one roller per tub.

Preparing the job

Surfaces should be dry and free from dirt, algae, lichen, fungi or moss. Make good any protruding nails and remove any large splinters. Allow oily treatments such as creosote to weather for a minimum of 3 months before applying Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback.

How to use

Remove green lid. Stir well before use. Fully submerge roller. Remove excess fluid by rolling on grid. Roll on a generous coating in directon of slats. Use pile end of roller to reach into edges. Where necessary, use a brush to reach awkward areas and to touch-up.

As with all rollers, it takes a few minutes of use to reach optimum performance whilst the fluid is absorbed deep into the pile core. One coat is normally sufficient, although more may be applied for a deeper colour or where a previous darker treatment is to be obscured. Do not apply if rain is likely before treatment can dry, or of the temperature is below 5°C, or in conditions of high humidity or frost. Wipe off splashes whilst still wet.

Drying time

Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback will be touch dry in 2-6 hours under normal weather conditions. Two coats are recommended to achieve maximum durability or a deeper colour. Ensure first coat is fully dry before applying subsequent coats. Showerproof technology ensures that Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback resists washing off 1 hour after application, however it will not resist heavy or persistent rainfall until thoroughly dry.

Cleaning and storage

Re-seal container after use. Clean up any spills while still wet. After use remove as much product as possible from roller before storing overnight in an airtight polythene bag or washing with water. Do not store or use in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

Always read the pack instructions carefully before use.
