Protect your skin & wood from the sun

Protect your skin & wood from the sun

If you are lucky enough to enjoy some sun when out in your garden this year remember that you still need to protect it from harmful UV rays. Just because it is a British Summer it doesn't mean that the sun can't harm you. There are five golden rules to help protect you and your family from the damage the sun can cause. In turn, this will reduce your risk of skin cancer.

  • Stay in the shade throughout the middle of the day (between 11am and 3pm)
  • Make sure you never burn
  • Always cover up and wear a hat to protect sensitive areas like your head and neck.
  • Remember to take extra care with children
  • Use factor 15+ sunscreen

What affects the strength of UV rays?

The strength of UV rays outside can vary depending on:

  • The time of year
  • The time of day
  • The weather
  • How much ozone there is in the stratosphere
  • Altitude (how high up you are)

Please take care when out in the sun and remember to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
