Bench projects
A picnic bench provides seating and a fantastic sturdy surface on which to play board games in your garden. Be the envy of your neighbours by refreshing a tired old garden bench with some carefully chosen Garden Shades colours and a dash of imagination. Garden Shades' opaque, matt colours are ideal for instantly transforming an eyesore into a centrepiece of the garden.

Before you start your makeover, try looking in magazines and shops for inspiration. If you're lucky you may find a style or pattern that you can use, but at the very least you should get a feel for whether you want to follow the current fashions, or create something that's more timeless. Here we've been guided by popular contemporary crockery designs, and have chosen a style that would sit perfectly in any English country garden. If you want to do the same, choose a pale but pretty base colour such as Country Cream with its warm yellow undertones.

The next step is to make your stencils. Choose a typeface that you like on your computer, enlarge the font size and type out a few well-chosen words. Then simply print and cut-out each letter in turn, arrange them on the table top and tape down with lowtack masking tape. For optimum results, use a specially designed stencil brush and dab on colour, building it up in layers. Here we have used Willow and Forget-Me-Not for the lettering. Don't forget that Cuprinol Garden Shades is available in tester pots, so there's no need to restrict your colour palette!
