Cuprinol and the environment

Our commitment to the environment

What we believe….

At Cuprinol, we are committed to sustainable development and reducing the environmental impact of our products and our business - from raw materials to waste and disposal. 'Step Towards Greener' explains our philosophy - in order to maintain the high quality standards that you expect from Cuprinol, we can't change everything overnight, but we are taking bold strides in the right direction.

We are continually trying to lower the impact of what we do by reducing waste and emissions and using energy, water and raw materials as effectively and efficiently as possible.

The protection and preservation of wood is of major importance to the environment. It ensures that wood is used to its full potential and will last as long as it can before requiring replacement. Our products will not only make your garden wood look its best but make it last longer too, therefore reducing the need to replace wooden items in your garden.

Here at Cuprinol we have focussed on 5 key areas where we can make genuine environmental and sustainable improvements across our business.

  • Products & services

Our aim is to reduce the ecological footprint of our products without compromising on performance and offering innovative products that contribute positively to the environment and personal well-being.

As part of AkzoNobel, Cuprinol have been working with 'Forum for the Future', a leading sustainable development charity to develop an Environmental Impact analyser tool which can be used to measure and record the environmental footprint of our products.

Cuprinol offers a large selection of products and finishes that are water-based and we are actively working to reduce the VOC (solvent) levels in our products. Our water based fence treatments have been reclassified from low VOC to minimal (based on the B&Q globe scheme) and we have reduced the solvent emitted to the atmosphere by these products by more than 25 tonnes per year.

Cuprinol is fully committed to supporting its products through the Biocidal Products Directive; a single EU registration scheme for biocides that affects ALL Cuprinol wood preservatives. Wood preservatives are Cuprinols heartland and heritage, which means that we are extremely passionate about maintaining the superior quality you expect from Cuprinol Preservers whilst ensuring they are BPD compliant.

Our aim is to engage our employees in our sustainability strategy and to form mutually beneficial partnerships with local communities.

Cuprinol actively works with Community RePaint, a UK-wide network of community-based paint re-use projects.

Since 2005, the AkzoNobel Community Program has supported more than 500 projects all over the world. This program encourages employees to actively contribute to their local communities.
